History of Mill Springs Baptist Church
Organized in 1828 as part of the Nolichucky Baptist Association, Mill Springs is the 3rd oldest Baptist Church in Jefferson County. There were 26 charter members, with Elder Duke Kimbrough serving as the founding pastor.In 1883, Mill Springs Baptist Church sent a query to the Nolichucky Association to seek help in organizing some form of denominational education for prospective ministers. The action of the group resulted in the establishment of a school that eventually became Carson-Newman College. I.M. Newman, William C. Newman and S.I. Newman were a part of the group from Mill Springs whose last name was used in naming the new institution. These men later helped in the organization of Mossy Creek Baptist Church.Mill Springs Baptist Church, has a rich heritage. Many faithful servants of God have laid a strong foundation. We seek to build upon that foundation and look forward to expectancy to a bright future. Mill Springs Baptist Church, a light on a hill, seeking to share the light of love of Jesus Christ.
